1983年愛媛県出身。
漫画家のアシスタントを経て、日本漫画の技法と概念をコンセプトに、絵画の制作と、登山による星空を主とした自然写真の撮影を行う。

世界三大コミック(日本漫画、バンド・デシネ、アメリカンコミックス)のうち白黒表現を主体としているのは日本漫画の特性である。
葛飾北斎の北斎漫画をルーツに、浮世絵から派生して進化してきた日本漫画には線による表現や余白の美学など、浮世絵の血を確かに受け継いでいる。

「浮世」という言葉には「現世」や「移りゆく世の中」という意味があり、「浮世絵」とは江戸時代の画家が当時の技法で当時の様子を描いた絵である。
そこから派生した日本漫画の技法で現代を描くことを「現代浮世絵/Contemporary Ukiyo-E」と定義して創作している。

 WATANABE Kunihiro a.k.a. JohDai
Born in 1983, Japanese.
After working as a manga artist’s assistant, I create paintings
and take photographs of nature based
on the concepts and techniques of Japanese manga.

Of the world’s three major comics
(Japanese Manga, bande dessinée, and American comics),
the main characteristic of Japanese Manga is their black-and-white expression.
With its roots in Katsushika Hokusai’s Hokusai Manga, Japanese Manga,
which has evolved from Ukiyo-e,
has certainly inherited the blood of Ukiyo-e, such as the expression of lines
and the aesthetics of blank spaces(余白/Yohaku).

The word “浮世/Ukiyo” means “this world” or “the changing world”,
and “Ukiyo-e” is a picture that depicts the situation
at that time by a painter in the Edo period.

I define “Contemporary Ukiyo-E” as drawing the present age using the technique
of Japanese Manga derived from Ukiyo-e.
