染飾家

すべては流れの中にある。
水のように移ろい続ける世界のなかで、私は一瞬立ち上がる「かわいい」という感覚を掬い上げ、色として染め、飾る。にじみ、揺らぎ、流れ続ける色彩は、留まることのない生の痕跡であり、変化し続ける世界そのものの姿である。

私の制作の根底には、「現は極楽」という思想がある。これは、今この瞬間を肯定するとともに、あらゆる存在は絶えず変化し続けるという仏教の「諸行無常」の理解に基づいている。世界は固定されたものではなく、関係し合いながら絶えず生成と消滅を繰り返している。その流れのなかに身を置くことこそが、生を味わうことだと考えている。

また、禅宗寺院で生まれ育ったことで、「色」は「色即是空」における「色」、すなわち人間の知覚に現れるあらゆる現象として捉えている。この意味で色彩は単なる視覚的要素ではなく、光や時間、記憶、感情、人との関係性までも映し出す現象である。

染色という技法は、水と染料が混じる偶然性を受け入れながら、素材と対話を重ねる営みでもある。私にとって「かわいい」とは、その移ろいのなかでふと立ち現れる、生を肯定する感覚である。衣・色飾・住という暮らしの営みを通して、その一瞬の輝きをすくい上げ、日常のなかに極楽を見いだす風景を表現していきたい。

Everything exists within the flow.
In a world that, like water, is in a constant state of flux, I scoop up that fleeting sensation of ‘cuteness’, dye it as colour, and adorn it. These colours—bleeding, wavering and ever-flowing—are traces of life that never stand still, and embody the very nature of a world in perpetual change.

At the heart of my work lies the philosophy that ‘the present is paradise’. This is based on an affirmation of the here and now, as well as an understanding of the Buddhist concept of ‘impermanence’ (mūlā-pariṇāma), which holds that all existence is in a state of constant flux. The world is not fixed; rather, through interdependent relationships, it is in a perpetual cycle of creation and dissolution. I believe that placing oneself within this flow is the very essence of savouring life.

Furthermore, having been born and raised in a Zen temple, I perceive ‘form’ as the ‘form’ in the phrase ‘form is emptiness’—that is, as every phenomenon that appears to human perception. In this sense, colour is not merely a visual element, but a phenomenon that reflects light, time, memory, emotion, and even our relationships with others.

The technique of dyeing is also a process of engaging in repeated dialogue with the material, whilst embracing the serendipity that arises when water and dye intermingle. For me, ‘cute’ is a sensation that affirms life, emerging unexpectedly amidst this transience. Through the daily activities of clothing, adornment and dwelling, I wish to capture that fleeting radiance and express scenes in which I discover paradise within the ordinary.
