三浦光雅が描く絵には、有機的なオブジェクトが現れることはなく、規則正しく織り重なる線状の⾊彩が⾒られます。
乱数によりランダムに決められた位置へのストロークにより、線そのものの純粋性を浮き上がらせます。三浦の制作は、乱数ソフトにて指⽰書を作ることから始まります。キャンバスの外へ乱数の印を組み、等間隔にセットされた特製の道具を⽤いて、点から点へ機械的な作業を⾏います。
絵の具は画⾯上で織り重なり、時には思いもよらない⾊が⽣まれ、⾊⾯が構成されていきます。筆を重ねることで、線と線がぶつかる場所から浮かび上がる⾊は強さを増し、何層にも重ねられたレイヤーから三浦作品特有の奥⾏きが絵画空間に⽣まれます。

Koga creates two-dimensional works, and his artistic approach focuses on the theme of accidental randomness.
His art reinterprets the distinction between manual and mechanical work, while simultaneously examining the artist’s role in the art’s conception and execution. The artist does not want to be involved in either the colour choice, the number of lines, or any other elements of the composition to reduce the arbitrariness that arises in the process of shaping an image.
He entrusts the selection process to a random number generator, and then strictly follows the instructions. However, he wishes to keep the painting process manual. Consequently, irregularities due to manual work will occur even if following instructions. Factors such as the flow of the brush, the temperature, and even the humidity can have an impact on the painting.
The notion of randomness and expectation are derived from dice or cards, as well as from everyday life, where things, even if carefully organized, may not go according to plan due to uncontrolled events. Even though Koga graduated in oil painting, he chose to use acrylic paints for their lustre and texture because he felt the necessity to fit to his era. The unevenness and slips in the lines of the final work can be seen by looking at the work closely and contrast with the flatness and crispness of the lines on the digital screen, and the artist likes this gap. Koga places equal importance on the creation process and the outcome, which is why he likes to display instructions he followed together with the paintings; those instructions being indeed a part of the final work. The vibrancy of Koga’s paintings is as much due totheir graphic structures as to their luminous colours. His paintings offer a unique opportunity to examine both your assumptions and the unexpected phenomena.
