1984年高知県生まれ、埼玉県と茨城県育ち、現在は石川県拠点。身近にある自然や気候に関心を寄せ、主に保存や記録が可能な素材であるガラスを用い、自分が存在する場所で知覚した「微かな懐かしさ」のありようを探求している。2010年ロードアイランドスクールオブデザイン大学院ガラス科修士課程修了。欧米各地で滞在制作に招聘される。また、国内外での公募展ではグランプリを受賞し、展示も精力的に行っている。2019年第33回Rakow Commission受賞(コーニングガラス美術館/アメリカ)、2021年富山ガラス大賞展2021大賞(富山市ガラス美術館)。近年の主な展覧会に“インタラクション：響きあうこころ” (富山市ガラス美術館)、個展“Subtle Intimacy: Here and There” (ポートランド日本庭園/アメリカ)がある。エベルトフトガラス美術館(デンマーク)、ラトビア国立美術館(ラトビア)、石川県能登島ガラス美術館、富山市ガラス美術館などに作品収蔵。今春に東急歌舞伎町タワー内に作品が設置。ニューヨークタイムズ紙、Vogue誌、日経新聞「美の十選」などに作家特集が掲載。

Rui Sasaki was born in 1984 in Kochi, Japan. She employs glass as a material that makes it possible to document and preserve presence, through her works exploring “subtle intimacy” perceived in places she is present. She has been invited many artist in residence programs and exhibitions around the world. She also has been a grand prize winner of such as the Jutta Cuny-Franz Memorial Award (Museum Kunst Palast / DE), the 33rd Rakow Commission (Corning Museum of Glass / the US), Toyama International Glass Exhibition 2021 (Toyama Glass Art Museum / JP). Her work is a part of permanent collections in many museums all over the world such as Corning Museum of Glass (the US), Glasmusset Ebeltoft (DK), Latvian National Museum of Art (LV), and Toyama Glass Art Museum (JP). She had her first solo exhibition in the US at Portland Japanese Garden in Spring 2023. She has been featured in the New York Times, Vogue Singapore, and Nikkei Newspaper. She currently lives in Ishikawa, Japan.
