1985年新潟県生まれ、2011年東京藝術大学工芸科染織専攻卒業

私は「ろうけつ染め」という技法を用い、「Chill」をテーマに実際の風景をモチーフとした既視感のある情景を表現することで、鑑賞者が作品の中へ現実逃避し、穏やかさと冷静さを取り戻しながら自身の感覚に立ち返るための作品制作をしています。
私が染めの技法で制作する理由の一つは、「染め」と「絵画」における平面性の違いにあります。絵画は紙や布の上に顔料が重なることで、表面に凹凸を伴う三次元的な質感を持ちます。一方、染めは染料が布そのものに浸透・定着し、余分な染料を洗い落とすことで、布の中に色彩だけが残ります。そのため、表面には何も付加されず、完全な平面性を持つ表現であると言えます。二次元と三次元の隔たりを感じさせない染めの特性は、鑑賞者が作品の中へ入り込み、現実から離れるという私のコンセプトを表現するうえで最も適したメディアであると考えています。
作品に描かれた点は、蝋を用いてフリーハンドで描いた痕跡による図柄です。この単純な行為の反復は、私自身にとって最も「Chill」な時間であり、瞑想に近い静かな集中状態をもたらします。その感覚が鑑賞者にも共鳴するよう意図するとともに、点の大小に変化をつけることで、感情の揺らぎや視覚的なリズムを強く感じられる表現を目指しています。
染めの技法は、作品としての完成度を保つために多くの制約と高度な技術を必要とします。一度染めた部分は修正が難しく、常に制約と向き合いながら制作を進めなければなりません。その感覚は多くの制約を抱えた現代社会と向き合う姿勢にも通じるものがあります。私は制作を通して、染めならではの平面性の可能性を探求するとともに、鑑賞者にとってリミナルスペースとなり得る作品を追求していきたいと考えています。

Using a technique called “rouketsu-zome,” I create works centered on the theme of “Chill” that depict scenes inspired by real landscapes with a sense of déjà vu. My aim is to allow viewers to escape into the artwork, regain a sense of calm and composure, and reconnect with their own senses.
One reason I create using dyeing techniques is the difference in flatness between “dyeing” and “painting.” In painting, pigments are layered on paper or fabric, giving the surface a three-dimensional texture with raised and recessed areas. In contrast, in dyeing, the dye penetrates and sets into the fabric itself; by rinsing away the excess dye, only the color remains within the fabric. Therefore, nothing is added to the surface, making it a form of expression with complete flatness. I believe the nature of dyeing—which blurs the distinction between two-dimensional and three-dimensional space—makes it the most suitable medium for expressing my concept of allowing viewers to immerse themselves in the work and detach from reality.
The dots depicted in the works are patterns created by freehand marks made with wax. For me, the repetition of this simple act is the most “chill” time, inducing a quiet state of concentration akin to meditation. While I intend for this sensation to resonate with the viewer, I also aim to create an expression that strongly conveys emotional fluctuations and visual rhythm by varying the size of the dots.
The dyeing technique requires many constraints and advanced skills to maintain the work’s artistic integrity. Once a section is dyed, it is difficult to correct, so I must proceed with my work while constantly navigating these limitations. This experience resonates with the mindset required to navigate modern society, which is itself fraught with constraints. Through my practice, I seek to explore the unique possibilities of two-dimensionality inherent in dyeing, while also creating works that can serve as liminal spaces for viewers.
