Kohei Nawa was born in Osaka in 1975. Based on the concept of “”PixCell,”” which is a fusion of the words “”pixel”” and “”cell,”” he creates sculptures and expresses space by combining the properties of various materials, such as polyurethane foam, glass beads, and prism sheets, with cutting-edge technology.
He has created the “”PixCell”” series, in which stuffed deer and other objects are covered with glass beads; the “”Trans”” series, a series of sculptures created by applying various effects to 3D scans of the human body; and the 13-meter-high “”Manifold””, a giant aluminum sculpture created in a virtual three-dimensional space under the theme of “”information, matter, and energy””. He has also created a series of sculptures with the theme of “”information, matter, and energy,”” such as the “”Trans”” series and “”Manifold”” (2013), a giant aluminum sculpture 13 meters high that was created in a virtual three-dimensional space.
Major solo exhibitions include “”Kohei Nawa – Synthesis”” (Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, 2011) and “”Kohei Nawa – SCULPTURE GARDEN”” (Kirishima Art Forest, Kagoshima, 2013).
