私は、わからないことや解決が難しい物事について考えるために絵を描いています。見る人の環境や経験によって感じ方が違いますが、作品に登場する子どもの瞳にはマクロとミクロのイメージを描き、蜜蜂は蜂群崩壊症候群などのメタファーを投影させています。それらは小さな命の存在と、歴史や宇宙などの大きな存在とのつながりを示唆しており、道具主義や功利主義では無く、一つ一つの命そのものに価値があることを意味します。　子どものころから漠然と、私が見ている世界と他の人が見ている世界は同じではないのではないかと思っていました。英サセックス大学の認知・計算神経科教授の Anil K. Seth によると、私たちが経験する現実は、そこに実際にあるものの直接的な反映ではなく、脳が脳のために作り上げた巧みな構造物なのだそうです。 よって、私は仮想現実を描いているとも言えます。　私にとって、絵を描くことは目の前のくらしと現実に向き合いながら、自分の世界の限界を飛び越える試みです。それは同時に、人間同士がわかりあえないことを前提にしながら、異なる脳によって作り上げられる現実の多様性を受容し、わかろうとする試みでもあります。

I paint to reflect on things I do not understand or matters that are difficult to resolve. Whilst the way viewers perceive my work varies depending on their background and experiences, I depict both macro and micro imagery in the eyes of the children who appear in my pieces, whilst projecting metaphors—such as Colony Collapse Disorder—onto the bees. These elements suggest a connection between the existence of small lives and larger entities such as history and the universe; they signify that value lies in each individual life itself, rather than in instrumentalism or utilitarianism.　Ever since I was a child, I have had a vague sense that the world I see might not be the same as the one others see. According to Anil K. Seth, Professor of Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience at the University of Sussex, the reality we experience is not a direct reflection of what actually exists, but rather an ingenious construct created by the brain for the brain’s own sake. Therefore, one could say that I am depicting a virtual reality.　For me, painting is an attempt to transcend the limits of my own world whilst engaging with the life and reality before my eyes. At the same time, it is an attempt to accept and seek to understand the diversity of realities constructed by different brains, whilst acknowledging that mutual understanding between human beings is not a given.
