東京藝術大学の学部時代から陶芸を専攻し、2022年に博士号を取得。陶芸を専門としつつ漆の表現にも取り組み、両者を融合させた独自の表現を追求してきた。とりわけ博士課程在籍中には陶芸専攻を休学し、同大学の漆芸研究室で漆を学んだ経験を通じて、両分野の伝統技法と精神を融合させた新たな表現を発展させている。近年は、陶芸と漆の融合によって金継ぎの美学と技法を拡張し、過去と現在の記憶を結びつける作品シリーズを制作。また、工芸とアートプロジェクトを組み合わせることで、人や土地との関係を強め、工芸素材を媒介に地域社会との関わりや文化継承の可能性を広げている。

【作品説明】
やきものを日々の暮らしの記憶媒体と捉えると、やきものが割れることは記憶が途切れる瞬間と捉えられる。作品シリーズ『embracing-damage』は、作品を手に取った人によって、割れたことで記憶が途切れたやきものに再び記憶が紡がれていく作品。これらの作品において漆は、接着剤や塗料だけではなく”記憶を継ぐ素材”として扱っているが、その背景にはアートプロジェクトの活動を通じて多くの人と素材を介して対話した経験がある。
近年は、日本の金継ぎと中国の鎹の2つの美学やイメージを組み合わせながら、現代の「継ぐ」を表現。鎹は、高蒔絵で表現している。

Holding a PhD in ceramics from Tokyo University of the Arts, he has been creating works that merge ceramics and urushi since his undergraduate studies. He took a leave of absence from his doctoral program to study urushi in the university’s lacquerware department, which enabled him to develop a unique artistic expression that fuses the traditional techniques and spirit of both fields.Under the concept of tsugu (継ぐ), he explores cross-disciplinary expressions, producing works that blend ceramics and urushi, as well as activities that combine crafts with art projects. Tsugu embodies a vital aspect of Japanese cultural identity, emphasizing spiritual themes such as “carrying on tradition” rather than merely connecting.In recent years, the fusion of ceramics and urushi has expanded the aesthetics and techniques of kintsugi, resulting in a series of works that link the memories of the past and present. Furthermore, by integrating crafts with art projects, he has developed initiatives that strengthen connections among people and with the land, using craft materials as a bridge for community engagement and cultural continuity.

When ceramics are understood as vessels of memory within everyday life, the moment they break can be seen as a rupture in memory itself. The series embracing-damage consists of works in which new memories are woven into broken ceramics by the hands of those who encounter and handle them.

In these works, lacquer is treated not merely as an adhesive or coating, but as a “material that carries memory.” This perspective is rooted in the artist’s experiences of engaging in dialogue with many people through materials in the context of art projects.

In recent years, the artist has explored contemporary forms of “repair” by combining the aesthetics and imagery of Japanese kintsugi and Chinese metal staples, with the staples rendered through high makie lacquer techniques.
