菅本智は、東京で生まれ育ち、現在ロンドンを拠点に活動するアーティスト。
2019年より、京都のBnA Alter Museumにてインスタレーション作品を常設展示。

菅本智の作品は、コンセプチュアルな彫刻やインスタレーションを通して、人間の思考や感情の複雑さを可視化する。色鮮やかな紐を用いた絡み合う線は、神経回路を想起させ、私たちの価値観、認識、そして意思決定の中に存在する調和と矛盾を象徴する。
彼女の多様な思考のあり方への関心は、日本社会における自身の経験―期待される同調性と、自らが望む独立性との間の緊張関係を行き来してきた経験―に由来する。
Glimpseなどのプロジェクトでは、ソーシャルメディアが私たちの身体的・感情的状態に与える影響を考察し、その緊張と誘惑の両面を明らかにする。Balanceシリーズでは、女性が自己と社会的期待のあいだでバランスを取ろうとする葛藤を探求する。
彼女の作品は、外部からの力がどのように私たちの内面的な風景を形作るのかを明らかにする。

Satoshi Sugamoto is an artist who was born and raised in Tokyo and is currently based in London.
Since 2019, one of his installations has been on permanent display at the BnA Alter Museum in Kyoto.

Through her conceptual sculptures and installations, Satoshi Sugamoto visualises the complexity of human thought and emotion. The intertwining lines, created using vibrantly coloured cords, evoke neural circuits and symbolise the harmony and contradictions that exist within our values, perceptions and decision-making.
Her interest in diverse ways of thinking stems from her own experiences within Japanese society—specifically, her experience of navigating the tension between the conformity expected of her and the independence she herself desires.
In projects such as *Glimpse*, she examines the impact of social media on our physical and emotional states, revealing both the tensions and the allure it presents. In the *Balance* series, she explores the conflict women face as they strive to strike a balance between their true selves and societal expectations.
Her work reveals how external forces shape our inner landscapes.
