宮崎県小林市須木地区出身、1997年生まれ。
2020年に大分芸術短期大学を卒業後、美術作家としての活動を開始。
現在は福岡を拠点にインディペンデントで作品の発表を重ねている。

代表作「麗髪（うるかみ）」は、刷毛で一筆描きした黒髪を通して、元来人に宿る気品や心の奥に潜む闇を映し出す。昭和のモデル・山口小夜子や過去の広告美術、日本古来の色彩や工芸に影響を受けながら、現代的な構図とマテリアルによって日本の美を再構築している。背景には永続性の象徴として経年変化しない純金箔やプラチナ箔を用い、変化し老いていく人の身体や精神との対比を生むことで、無常観を含んだ美のあり方を描いている。
近年では、福岡県の上野焼の窯元を拠点に陶芸作品の制作も開始し、新たな表現を展開している。

山中は宮崎県の須木地区という過疎地域で生まれ、人が受け継いできた建物や行事が次第に失われていく様子を眺めながら育った。今回の展示ではそんな故郷をモデルに、麗髪の里というすでに無くなってしまった架空の山里を作り、そこに伝わっていた思想や祭りの気配を現代に映しとるように作品を制作した。

髪は身体の一部でありながら、伸びては切られ、時に残されることで執着、決断の意志を映し出す。命の儚さや生命の神秘、物事の終わりと始まり、自然の美しさ、内側から渦巻く本懐を、髪のうねりや流線の中に重ね麗髪というシリーズは生まれている。
今回の作品の一部では、祭りの中で一心不乱に踊る熱情を、小さな波が積み重なり大きな流れを生むような筆致で表現している。失われながらもなお続いていく人の営みと、形を変えながら継がれていく思いを、髪の流れの中に宿した。

Born in 1997 in the Sugi district of Kobayashi City, Miyazaki Prefecture.
After graduating from Oita College of Arts in 2020, she began her career as a visual artist.
She is currently based in Fukuoka, where she continues to exhibit her work as an independent artist.

His signature work, ‘Urukami’, reflects the innate dignity and the darkness lurking deep within the human heart through black hair rendered in a single brushstroke. Drawing inspiration from Shōwa-era model Sayoko Yamaguchi, historical advertising art, and traditional Japanese colours and crafts, he reconstructs Japanese beauty through contemporary composition and materials. By using pure gold leaf and platinum leaf—which do not change with age and symbolise permanence—as a background, she creates a contrast with the changing and ageing human body and mind, thereby depicting a form of beauty imbued with the concept of impermanence.
In recent years, she has also begun creating ceramic works based at a Ueno-yaki kiln in Fukuoka Prefecture, expanding her range of artistic expression.

Yamanaka was born in the depopulated Sugi district of Miyazaki Prefecture, where he grew up witnessing the gradual disappearance of buildings and traditions passed down through the generations. For this exhibition, taking his hometown as a model, he has created a fictional mountain village—‘The Village of Beautiful Hair’—which no longer exists, and produced works that seek to reflect the ideas and atmosphere of the festivals once practised there in the present day.

Although hair is part of the body, the way it grows, is cut, and is sometimes left untouched reflects attachment and the will to make decisions. The ‘Rei-kami’ series was born by superimposing the transience of life, the mystery of existence, the endings and beginnings of things, the beauty of nature, and the true desires swirling from within onto the undulations and flowing lines of hair.
In some of the works in this exhibition, the passion of those dancing with single-minded devotion during the festival is expressed through brushstrokes that resemble small waves piling up to form a great current. Within the flow of the hair, the artist has imbued the human activities that continue even as they are lost, and the sentiments that are passed down whilst changing form.
