企画概要
このたびの展覧会でフォーカスするアーティスト・村田宗一郎は、2000年代後半に学生ながらFrieze Londonに出品するなど、その実力は早くから注目を集めてきました。村田の表現は美術領域にとどまらず、詩や小説の執筆にまでおよび、テキストとビジュアルイメージを架橋しながら、作家特有のパースペクティブを現出させています。
本展では、平面作品を中心にキャリア初期から最新作までを網羅した50点以上の作品を展示し、タイトルの「A Walk through White Shadows」と呼応するように、作品を離散的に配置し、回廊のような展示空間を作り出します。世界が未曾有の危機に見舞われる中、普遍的なテーマである「詩性」を表象する村田の作品は、見るものを日常から遠ざけ、自らを見つめ直す静かな時間を提供いたします。
Event Summary
Forty works by eight promising young artists of Japanese-style painting, including those who have exhibited at art fairs will be on display and on sale. Through works that combine ancient traditional techniques with contemporary sensibility, the exhibition offers an opportunity to rediscover a “New Japanese-style painting.”

村田宗一郎（1985年生まれ）
これまで、リヨンビエンナーレと連動したグループ展「Rendez-vous 11」展（2011年、ヴィルールバンヌ）や、「VOCA展2017 現代美術の展望─新しい平面の作家たち」（2017年、東京）に出展するなど、国内外で高い評価を得てきました。近年は活動の拠点を関西に移し、「Women, Animals, and a Fence that parts self from others」展（2020年、京都）、「In Blue」展（2020年、京都）の二会場同時個展が開催されるなど、今注目されている作家の一人です。

About the Exhibiting Artists
Soichiro Murata
He has received high acclaim both in Japan and abroad, including participation in the group exhibition “Rendez-vous 11” (2011, Villeurbanne) in conjunction with the Biennale de Lyon, and “VOCA Exhibition 2017: Prospects for Contemporary Art – New Artists on the Plane” (2017, Tokyo). In recent years, she has moved her base of activities to the Kansai region, and is one of the artists who is currently attracting attention, with two simultaneous solo exhibitions, “Women, Animals, and a Fence that parts self from others” (2020, Kyoto) and “In Blue” (2020, Kyoto).
